Frequently Asked Questions
What are the UK Standard measurements between Headboard fixing points?
Our headboards are made to the UK Standard widths. This is the distance between the centres of the two fixing points on the Divan or Bed Base.
Simply measure the distance from the centre of one fixing point to the next, and compare to the list below. A few millimeters over or under will not present any problems.
If you find you have a non-standard set of fixing points, our made-to-order headboards can be made to accommodate this at no extra cost, or alternatively consider a Wall Mountable Headboard.
|Bed Size||Bed Base Width||Fixing Point Measurement
(Centre to Centre)
|3ft Single Bed||90cm||61cm|
|4ft Small Double Bed||120cm||91cm|
|4ft6 Double Bed||135cm||106cm|
|5ft King Size Bed||150cm||122cm|
|6ft Super King Size Bed||180cm||152cm|
6ft Super King Note: Many 6ft Divan Bases have essentially 2 sets of 3ft width fixing points, and the headboards are supplied with 4 struts for additional support - the above measurement refers to the outermost fixing points.
Can I order a Bespoke Size Upholstered Headboard?
Absolutely! All of our Upholstered Headboards are made to order in Bristol by Swanglen Furnishings, and as such any modifications can be accommodated.
Quotes can given on request - just let us know the model(s) you are interested in and the required size, and we will let you know the price.
How does the Headboard fix to the Divan or Bed Base?
Headboards are usually fixed to the bed using headboard fixing bolts (which are supplied with the Divan or Bed Base, as each manufacturer can use slightly different size bolts).
With the exception of Floor Standing headboards, our headboards are supplied with wooden struts as standard, and many are alternatively available with a wall mountable fixing option (at no extra charge).
Headboard fixing bolts pass through a slot in the wooden strut, or the slot on a Floor Standing headboard base, and into a retaining bolt in the Divan or Bed Base. If you cannot see the retaining bolt it may be upholstered over, you should be able to locate it by touch approximately 6 inches from the edge of the bed. Most manufacturers apply a sticker to the upholstery to indicate their position.
If you do not have you headboard fixing bolts for any reason, you can purchase replacements form most DIY stores or online - alternatively consider a wall mountable headboard.
How do I measure the Height of a Headboard?
For a headboard with struts, our measurement is for the main body or upholstered part of the headboard - that is EXCLUDING the struts.
A headboard of this type will usually be seated at the top of your mattress, but can be adjusted via the slotted headboard struts provided.
Floor Standing Headboards are measured from the very bottom to the top.
How do the Wall Mountable Fixings work?
Our Upholstered Headboard manufacturer Swanglen offer the choice of standard struts or wall mountable fittings. The wall mountable fittings are a French Cleat style - please refer to the image below for further details.
Please note that due to the varying types of wall materials, we do not supply any wall plugs/screws, etc. for fitment of the batten to the wall.
